My X1/9's History:
I bought it in October 2002 from a Victor Harbor resident.
In the next year or so I replaced things like the battery, indicator relay,
horn, alternator and belt, front shock absorbers, replaced the tape deck for a
CD player that I got for free from a friend and put in a $20 amplifier (because
the one in the CD player was dead), have now replaced that with a Pioneer
DEH-P7650MP head unit. I also replaced one of the tyre tubes and installed
fire extinguisher and central locking. I think that's just about all of
it. Future projects include CAI (Cold Air Intake) with POD filter and
more... Now Finished :-)
Features:
Pre 2005
| 1300cc 8V SOHC Transversely
Mid Mount Engine (75HP approx) with stock dual throat Weber |
| 4 Speed Manual Gearbox (same
engine and gearbox as the Fiat 128 with some modifications) mine crunches |
| Leather seats (in need of
repair/replace) I saw some "Autotechnica Monza" seats that looked pretty
cool |
| Removable Fibreglass Roof
(stashes in front) |
The audio setup :-)

idea). See pictures below. |

Tacho, + two extra gauges (to come) |
| Big 460 CCA Battery |
| Performance Challenge 13x5.5
Wheels with 205x65 rear and the front ones don't fit on yet |
| Something else, I just can't
think what it is... |
|
|

My Cold Air Induction. |

The "MILO" can mod. |

That hole goes to the left scoop.
|

What it is made from |
-
Autotechnica POD Filter that a friend gave me
-
A piece of VW Passat ducting pipe
-
A cut down Milo can
-
Custom made aluminium cylinder box
that fits on to the scoop inlet
-
Some stormwater pipe fitting
-
And lots of black paint and Silicon :)
And my new wheels

Audio
I think I need some carpet...

My current plan is an engine upgrade, which will be underway as
soon as I find a reliable car to drive while this one is off the road.
Idea 1
Series V RX7 13B Rotary
Very lightweight :)
I have documentation of this upgrade before using a x1/9
gearbox, but I would like to use something a bit tougher like a Lancia Beta 5
speed gearbox or whatever.
Idea 2
Lancia twin cam 16 valve 2 litre inline 4
Heavier than original motor so might make for interesting handling.
Has been done more times than I can count.
Idea 3
Uno Turbo 1.3L
Easy install, but hard to find.

Ok, here goes, I have removed the milo can mod (leaked and got
some dust and sand in the carb). I'm installing a Unifilter (washable
foam filter) in the stock can with a slight mod to it to get cold air from the
left scoop.
I just got my front wheels put on, as you can see in the
picture above I only had the rear ones on. Now I have them all on, the
rear are Yokahama 205 60 R13 and the fronts are Bridgstone Elite 165 75 R13,
the front ones rub on the body when I'm near full lock but I try and avoid
that.
I'm still enjoying the pleasure of driving a convertible, on
these nice warm days but the rain has made things interesting.
I will be planing the new mod to my car soon, which includes
getting an engine/front cut, and wide body kit. I hope all these
upgrades wont overwhelm me, it going to be a long build up process. But
my new garage should make things easier, with a pit, lots of space and all the
tools I'll need.
Wish me luck!

New Filter working well, Uni Filter UC 216 47ST.

A good fit.

Cold air can help, I prolly wouldn't notice it during winter
though.

I had to put the stickers on, makes the car go faster! so they
say.

Lookin good!
